The old city of Bucharest
The Lipscani area is the oldest remaining part of Bucharest and is known as the “historical center”. This district was Bucharest’s most important commercial zone from the middle ages to late 20th century. These days it is famed more for its history and its nightlife, the Old Town area of Bucharest is in fact home to some superb places to eat: both high end, fine-dining establishments as well as kebabs and take-aways.
Bucharest has the Palace of Parliament as a folly and testament to the megalomania of former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu or a display of Romanian materials and engineering skill (arguably both), it's a must-visit.
The Cișmigiu Gardens in the center of the city is a pearl of park built around a romantic lake and featuring old-growth trees and gracious, wrought-iron signposts and benches. North of the center, broad avenues like Şoseaua Kiseleff glide past old villas and acres of green to a commanding replica of the Arc de Triumph
In Bucharest you will find the village Museum that shows off the elaborate woodworking, pottery-making, egg-painting, and weaving skills of the peasantry in a way that's both educational and amusing.
Lastly, one of the most interesting facts about Bucharest is it is known for its vibrant nightlife. More than this, the locals love to look their best when they head out for the evening, showing off their best looks. Bucharest boasts many nightclubs, bars, and pubs to meet for a drink or dance the night away.
Tiriac collection - cars and motorcycles
The Tiriac Car Collection includes over 150 historical vehicles manufactured since 1899, but also performance cars, with a current design. Visitors will find the only collection in the world with the 6 Rolls Royce Phantom produced until 1972, as well as exhibits that previously belonged to great names such as Sir Elton John, Sammy Davis Jr. or Bernie Ecclestone.
Bucharest is by far Romania’s most visited city and like any other capital, it has a vibrant and crowded old town with plenty of historical attractions, restaurants, small shops and bars. If you have only a few hours to explore it, here is our local expert opinion on the top sites from Old Town Bucharest you should not miss.
The old streets are packed with a variety of bars and restaurants, the narrow streets from Old Town Bucharest were once the main commercial streets of the city. Their name is, in fact, the legacy of the past days when merchants brought goods from all the corners of the world and sold their products to the elites of the capital.
